Course Content

This course will be delivered at James Watt College, and you will be taught in dedicated higher education zones at the college, which is equipped with IT facilities, study space and lounge area.

You can benefit from one-to-one teaching– which will take place in smaller, university-style seminar groups. This means that you will have a personal learning experience in an environment in tune with a university.

Throughout your studies there will be learning experiences that are examining both theoretical and practical aspects of education and learning in a school/educational establishment. You will attend lectures where our qualified lecturers, all of whom have a wealth of both practical and theoretical backgrounds and have worked in the education sector for many years and who will share their expertise of working in the classroom with you.

As part of your learning there will be opportunities to participate in seminars, for you as a student to share your views on for example behaviour management in schools and listen as other students provide their perspectives.

Group learning is an excellent way of working in partnership, a core skill when working in education, therefore there will be times when you will be placed in a group to problem solve and devise practical solutions to issues raised within the module, all based around your learning of the key components of the module.

There will be aspects of the degree where you will be directed to self-guided independent study.  Your tutor will be on hand should you find this a challenge, but when you are researching and exploring for yourselves around subjects of interest you become engrossed in the world of academic literature and all the amazing facts and explanations that come with this.

Work-based activities and assignments will enable you to engage with your own practice and to share your knowledge and expertise with others. You will also undertake a work-based study in your second year, which allows you, with tutorial support, to focus on a particular area of interest within your professional practice.
