Uniformed Services Extended Certificate Level 2

This is an ideal course for those interested in a career within the Uniformed Public Services, such as the Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Armed Forces and Coastguard. The course is delivered by personnel who have a wealth of operational experience across a broad range of Uninformed Public Services. Their guidance will help you develop the skills required for your chosen career path.

The majority of the course is practically based where skills and knowledge are developed through a portfolio of case studies, reports, projects, role plays, presentations and discussions. This will be augmented by two externally marked examinations. On completion of the course you will have a basic understanding of the key elements and components of the industry. The majority of studies will be carried out in the classroom completing practical projects and taking part in discussions. You will also be required to take part in educational trips and visits relevant to the core subjects you will be learning.

Trips may include activities such as white water rafting, camping and mountain biking or may be research based trips to locations such as the Peak District or even New York!

Throughout the course you will study a range of units such as: the Role and Work of Public Services; Citizenship; Sport and Recreation; Expedition Skills; and Responding to Incidents. There is also a requirement that you undertake work experience with a relevant employer. You will also undertake a practical expedition, in addition to a number of other relevant visits.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 35 Weeks

You will need 4 GCSEs (Or equivalent) at grade 3 or above including English or maths. A positive school or college reference demonstrating good levels of attendance and punctuality will also be required.

The majority of units are assessed on course work set throughout the year. There are 2 core units which are assessed by means of an externally marked examination.

On successful completion of the Level 2 Extended Certificate you will have the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 in Uniformed Public Services. Alternatively you may consider a career in one of the Uniformed Public Services. If you chose this pathway then you will be supported through your application.
