Preparing to work in Schools Award Level 1

This qualification prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person and child and young person development.
This qualification is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school setting including: young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language.

This is suitable for anyone who is considering a career working with children.

To achieve this course you will be required to successfully complete three units;
• Understand schools as organisations
• Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well
• Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements; however we would ask for learners to be working at minimum entry level 3 in literacy.

Delivery and Assessment

This qualification will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board.


This award prepares learners for progression routes onto either the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning; or Level 2 Certificate in An Introduction to Early Years Education and Care
