This course provides a comprehensive introduction to practical horticulture skills, covering essential techniques and knowledge required for entry-level positions in the horticulture industry.

Participants will learn fundamental skills in plant care, propagation, soil management, and garden maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours:

Practical Skills: Develop hands-on skills in planting, pruning, propagation, and general garden maintenance.

Understanding Plant Growth: Gain knowledge of plant growth cycles, requirements, and common issues.

Soil Management: Learn techniques for soil preparation, fertilization, and composting.

Health and Safety: Understand safety procedures and regulations relevant to horticultural work environments.

Environmental Awareness: Explore sustainable gardening practices and environmental considerations in horticulture.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 35 Weeks

This course is suitable for beginners or individuals with a keen interest in horticulture. GCSE grade 2 in maths and English, ideally but all applicants will be assessed on an individual bases.

Full time college course Face-to-face practical sessions, and theory lessons

All learners will also study Maths and English study program in line with their current qualifications and take part in a weekly tutorial program.

Assessment Methods: Practical observations and short answer questions.

Successful completion of this course may lead to further studies in horticulture or related fields, employment opportunities in nurseries, garden centres, parks, or landscaping companies, or self-employment as a gardener.

Upon successful completion of assessments, you will receive a City and Guilds Level 1 Practical Horticulture Skills diploma.
