Gym Instructing & Personal Training Diploma Level 3

This 8 week course gives learners the knowledge and skills to work with individual and groups of clients in a personal training and/or gym setting. This qualification will provide students with a suitable introduction to gym instructing, advancing to the more specific personal training activity. It will support and compliment other fitness qualifications that we have on offer and provides a progression route.

This is a practical based course, 2 days a week, where skills and knowledge are developed through a portfolio of case studies, role plays, presentations, reports and discussions. On completion of the course you will have a comprehensive understanding of the key elements of personal training. Areas that you will study include:

Health, Safety and Welfare in a fitness environment
Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
Programming personal training sessions
Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme
Principles of Gym Instructing and Personal Training

Entry Requirements

A suitable background in personal training and gym usage would be advantageous. You will also need to have good communication skills and a keen interest in the fitness industry, with a competent degree of physical fitness. A positive reference with good levels of attendance and punctuality may also be required. Students must achieve a L1 in English and a minimum Entry 3 in maths on an initial assessment carried out at interview, or have a GCSE grade C/ 4 or equivalent Functional Skills at level 2.

Delivery and Assessment

Our course is internally assessed where students must complete a portfolio of evidence, a practical demonstration/assignment and coursework. You will also be required to sit a multiple choice exam paper which is also assessed internally.

Progression

On completion of the Level 3 Diploma you have the opportunity to add a Basic Fitness-Specific Business Unit as well as apply for ‘bolt-on’ Active IQ Courses such as Kettlebells; Weight Management and Specific Group Training.
