Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship

An Accounts or Finance Assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business. The Accounts or Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business. An Accounts or Finance Assistant’s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry. Accounts or Finance Assistants can work in almost any sector.

Apprentices will complete the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.  End point Assessment will be carried out towards the end of the programme by an external organisation chosen by the employer. Assessment includes: Structured interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence summary), In-tray test, The independent assessor will assess each element of the end point assessment and will then decide whether to award successful apprentices with a pass, or a distinction.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: Weeks

Entry criteria varies depending on the Apprenticeship that you are studying and the needs of the employer, however applicants must have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C/4 or above including maths and English upon entry to this programme. Of equal importance are skills like motivation and work ethic, good interpersonal skills, good communication skills and a willingness to learn. Employers will set specifications depending on the role.

The duration of the apprenticeship is approximately 16 months depending on the needs of the employer and the learner.  This will be delivered by taught sessions in college, work based coaching, supported by an interactive/digital workbook in preparation for the exam based elements of the qualification. The candidate will be assigned a learning coach/mentor with business administration experience who will guide them through creating their own professional portfolio of evidence during a series of one to one support visits.

On completition of this apprenticeship, you can go onto Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship Standard.

In house/core module delivery: Introduction to Bookkeeping, Principles of Bookkeeping Controls, Principles of Costing, The Business Environment.  PLUS in tray assessment, on the job Portfolio of evidence followed by a professional discussion with an independent assessor from AAT.
