BMet supports Learning Disability Week by sharing student and staff life experiences

BMet is highlighting the importance of Learning Disability Week, by showcasing the experiences of its students and staff with inclusive support needs, across its social media channels.

From today (Monday 19 June) until Sunday 25 June, the awareness week theme “Living Life with a Learning Disability” will be brought to life at BMet with a series of personal accounts and activities.

Among other things, a vibrant singing choir, sports related activities and a purpose-made garden area nurtured by students with additional needs will be featured.

To further highlight the experiences of people living with learning disabilities, learning difficulties and those who have a neurodiversity, videos shared on BMet’s social media channels will include BSL sign language, as well as subtitles.

Learning Disability Week is organised annually by learning disability charity, Mencap – which aims to improve the quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities. This is done by raising awareness of important issues, fighting stigma and discrimination and by raising funds for outreach and support programmes.

As such, the special awareness week is close to the hearts of many teachers, educators and parents.

The important occasion is a great opportunity for BMet to support a cause that is relevant to its communities of students, staff and partners – many of whom have a learning disability themselves.

It will be a chance to showcase experiences, highlight successes and to give people a voice to share their personal stories.

Speaking of the special date, Sam Coles, Equality and Diversity Manager at BMet said: “Learning Disability Week is such an important date in the diary for us, that enables us to raise awareness and celebrate people with inclusion support needs.

“It is a pleasure for us to shine a light on our community of learners and staff who have such great potential to do well, with the right support.”

Don’t forget to fully engage with us on our BMet social media channels for Learning Disability Week – hashtags are #LDWeek and #LearningDisabilityWeek.
