BMet is moving forward in power and pride for Black History Month

Students and staff at BMet College are once again joining organisations across the UK to lend their support to Black History Month, with a variety of captivating social media content.

This year’s theme “Standing Firm in Power and Pride”, is a tribute to the resilience, strength and unwavering commitment to progress that defines the Black community across the globe.

Throughout October, the awareness month will highlight the profound contributions made by Black people – be they leaders, activists or pioneers who have shaped history, whilst also looking towards a future of continued empowerment, unity and growth.

BMet has a large demographic of students and staff who are of African Caribbean origin and as such Black History Month resonates with a huge part of BMet’s communities across its colleges.

The month is an opportunity for the college to showcase activities, highlight successes and to give people a voice to share their personal experiences and thoughts.

A variety of relevant and visually engaging communications have been created to reinforce the beauty and richness of African Caribbean culture, celebrating the resilience, strength and pride of people whose stories are often underrepresented across the curriculum.

Features include videos of activities and discussions with the college’s BAME Network and cross college curriculum areas including art and design, business, ESOL, law and performing arts.

Speaking of BMet supporting Black History Month, Pat Carvalho, BMet CEO and Principal said:

“Highlighting and celebrating our diverse cultures at BMet is ingrained into our values of Belong, Motivate, Engage and Thrive. Our BMet platforms, will serve as a hub for sharing insights, stories and historical retrospectives that resonate with the ethos of ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride.’

“Through our communication channels, we aim to foster a space where the rich tapestry of Black history is celebrated and revered. The theme standing firm in power and pride is a chance to bring the strong and positive contributions of people of African Caribbean culture to the forefront both historically and culturally.

“I encourage people to engage with BMet’s content, which should be thought-provoking and serve as a catalyst for further discussions surrounding Black History Month.”

Videos will be presented on BMet’s social media platforms with the hashtags #PowerAndPride2025, #BHM2025 and #StandingFirm.

Please don’t forget to like, share and comment on our content which will be showcased on our BMet Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter) channels.
