Metal Inert Gas Welding Award Level 1

The course will allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the engineering sector. You will learn how to produce beads on plate in the PA flat position, produce a lap fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position, produce a tee fillet weld in the PA flat position, produce a tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position, produce a corner weld in the PA flat position and learn about the process and health & safety requirements for metal inert gas (MIG) welding.

There are no formal entry requirements. Enthusiasm and a determination to succeed will be an advantage.

Delivery and Assessment

You will be assessed by observations of your practical skills.

Progression

On completion of this qualification you may progress into employment or onto a level 2 qualification, like the Award in Welding Skills or the Diploma in Engineering. You may also be interested in taking an award in another type of welding at Level 1.
