Start your journey towards a rewarding career in health and social care, where you’ll make a real difference in people’s lives. This one-year course offers a broad foundation in care sector knowledge and skills, with the opportunity to progress to the Extended Diploma in Year 2.

You’ll explore key topics such as human development, anatomy and physiology, sociological and psychological perspectives, safeguarding adults, and promoting independence. Weekly work placements give you the chance to apply your learning in real-world settings and gain valuable experience.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 35 Weeks

You’ll need four GCSEs at grades 9–4 (A–C), including English, Maths, and a Science. Alternatively, a Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care with a Merit grade or above is accepted.

You’ll be assessed continuously through a mix of written exams, case studies, and presentations, helping you build confidence and practical understanding.

This course opens doors to careers in nursing, social work, family support, psychology, criminology, law, and more. It also supports progression to university-level study or the second year of the Extended Diploma.
