Level 1 - Introductory

ESOL (Adults), Vocational Skills and Digital Skills

We have ESOL classes at Matthew Boulton and James Watt.

On our ESOL adult study programme, you will improve your English and can achieve qualifications in some or all of the following*:

ESOL Speaking & Listening

  • ESOL Reading
  • ESOL Writing
  • Functional Skills or GCSE Maths
  • Living and Working in the UK or Progression
  • Digital Skills

    Vocational ESOL

    Your adult ESOL study programme will help you develop the skills you need to find work or a better job in the UK.  You will also benefit from careers advice to help you identify how to work towards to type of job you want.

    Also, if you are working towards level 1 or 2 in ESOL, you may also be able to also do a vocational qualification with us at the same time, such as:

  • ESOL: (Entry – Level 2) - when you come to enrol, you will be given an initial assessment to determine your level. The level of course you are offered will depend on the outcome of this. This course is for people who are not native speakers of English. On this course, you will develop your skills in speaking & listening, reading, and writing to improve your job opportunities and quality of life in the UK.

    We offer courses in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing from Entry 1 to Level 2, as three separate courses.  We also offer a Pre-Entry course for learners who are not yet ready for Entry 1. The course you will be offered will depend on your previous qualifications and an initial assessment.

    This course may be free if you meet the eligibility criteria. You will need to bring the following evidence to enrolment: nationality, residency in the UK and benefits.

    This course is assessed by examination at different points in the year.

    * Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

    Course Length: 0 Weeks

    Everyone is welcome and there are no entry requirements.  You will see an advisor who will put you on the right course for you.

    Depending on your level of study you will have a formal assessment which may be examination based.

    You may be able to progress on to Functional skills or to other higher level programmes.
