English Language A Level

A Level English Language is a fascinating course that explores how language works in real-world contexts. This subject complements many others and supports careers in teaching, journalism, media, and more.

You’ll study a wide range of spoken and written texts, analysing how language is used to create meaning. You’ll explore how language varies across time, place, and social groups, and investigate how people use language in different contexts. The course encourages critical thinking and independent research.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 35 Weeks

You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Grade 4 in Maths and Grade 5 in English Language.

The course is assessed through written exams at the end of two years, along with Non-Exam Assessed coursework components that allow you to explore language topics of personal interest.

English Language is highly valued by universities and employers. It supports progression to a wide range of degree courses and careers, particularly those involving communication, writing, media, linguistics, and education.
