AAT Bookkeeping Certificate Level 2

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Foundation course is an entry-level bookkeeping qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to basic bookkeeping principles and skills.  This Level 2 course is part-funded, so the cost for students is reduced.

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and On Campus model.

On successful completion of this course, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course.

What will I learn?  This short course, will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to manage books effectively – including double entry bookkeeping, and associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance standard. Units of Study

Learning outcomes: The Level 2 course covers a range of key areas, including:

  • Understand financial transactions within a bookkeeping system
  • Process customer & supplier transactions
  • Process receipts and payments
  • Process transactions through the ledgers to the trial balance
  • Understand controls in a bookkeeping system
  • Use control accounts
  • Reconcile a bank statement with the cash book

Study Method: Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons last for around 45 minutes and are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further and learners should expect to spend around 4-5 hours studying independently online each week. On campus, you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor – without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will provide guidance.

* Courses are free for 16-18s. Students aged 19 or over could be charged fees and is subject to a fee assessment. Learners on benefits in the majority of cases courses are also free. Fee assessments are completed at enrolment.

Course Length: 18 Weeks

You will need to be able to demonstrate strong written communication skills via GCSE grade C/4 or above in English Language or Level 2 literacy at initial assessment. Additionally GCSE maths at grade C/4 or the ability to demonstrate past numerical ability from the workplace is essential if you are to get the most from the course.

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and On Campus model.  The qualification comprises of two mandatory units both of which are assessed by two end-of-unit online exams.

This course starts week commencing the entry date stated above.

On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those who looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.  This qualification can be used as a fast track to the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting.  On successful completion of this course, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course.

1. Bookkeeping Transactions: understand financial transactions within a bookkeeping system, process customer transactions, process supplier transactions, process receipts and payments, process transactions through the ledgers to the trial balance.

2. Bookkeeping Controls: understand payment methods, understand controls in a bookkeeping system, use control accounts, use the journal, reconcile a bank statement with the cash book.
