Apprenticeships

Apprenticeship Futures. Find out more

Apprenticeships are available to anyone over the age of 16 and you can earn while you learn!

What’s more you can start at various times throughout the year and be earning a wage straight away! What better way to start your working life than gaining qualifications and experience at the same time as earning a wage?

Apprenticeships offer you the chance to develop the skills and confidence needed in today’s working world, skills that will be useful throughout your working life.  What’s more we have strong links with local, regional, national and global employers so we can offer a whole host of apprenticeship opportunities for young people.

Why do an apprenticeship?

  • Earn a real wage - and no need to take out a student loan
  • Gain an industry recognised qualification in a related subject area
  • Learn job specific skills and gain genuine industry experience
  • 90% of apprentices stay in employment after finishing their apprenticeship
  • 19% of advanced apprentices progress to Higher Education

What qualifications do I need?

Apprenticeships are available to anyone over the age of 16 and to those who are leaving or have left full-time education. The level of qualifications required vary according to what level of apprenticeship you wish to study and what requirements the employer has.
Employers require you to have good English and maths skills. Entry criteria includes a minimum of 5 GCSEs including grades A-D in English and maths (or equivalent level qualifications).

If you have already attained a higher level qualification than the level of apprenticeship for which you are applying this may affect your eligibility for funding and your ability to pursue your desired apprenticeship programme. Please contact us to find out more about your eligibility prior to application.

Training

Each apprenticeship programme is designed to reflect the training needs of the individual learner and programmes usually take one - two years to complete. Training is delivered through a combination of both on and off the job training. It can be at monthly workshops at the College or in the workplace. The remainder of your training takes place in the workplace with regular visits from assessors. Training is not tied to the academic year; you can start the programme at various times throughout the year. College holidays do not apply. Offers of places on Apprenticeship programmes are subject to satisfactory interview and employment arrangements.
