Stourbridge College to host event on exciting plans for the future

Stourbridge College is holding an event this week on its plans to transform itself into a leading technical college.

The event, taking place this Wednesday (14 March) between 4pm-7pm, offers a fantastic opportunity for parents and students alike to find out more about the exciting plans.

Recently, Stourbridge College, confirmed it is consolidating its approach to A levels over the next 18 months.

Following a major consultation exercise, the college will phase out A levels over the next 18 months whilst ensuring that all current A level students will continue to receive full support to complete their studies.

The college will take the opportunity to develop and grow its already strong vocational education offer, in line with Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Combined Authority skills priorities.

Plans are in place to expand its apprenticeship offer and to embrace the implementation of Technical Levels from 2020.

Linked with the decision to revitalise Stourbridge College, BMet has announced the creation of a new A level Centre of Excellence at Sutton Coldfield College due to open in September 2019.

Gill Coldicott, Head of College at Stourbridge College, said: “During the next 18 months at Stourbridge College, we will be withdrawing A levels and taking the opportunity to focus on our strengths, which are providing students with a wide range of great vocational courses that develop the skills that local and national employers want.

“We do understand there may be some concerns; the decision to consolidate our A level offer and to phase-out A levels at the college has not been taken lightly and was made after consultation with our own staff and students. We are doing all we can to provide the support and advice they need.

“As part of this we have already run one event on our plans and the next one is being held on Wednesday 14 March at which students can discuss options with our team.

“The decision to focus on vocational courses means we will continue to develop strong and diverse vocational education at the wonderful, revitalised facilities at Stourbridge College.

“We believe that this will benefit our students and the employers we serve.”
