Thinking about a career in engineering or rail? We’re proud to offer the Rail Skills Hub, delivered in partnership with Network Rail, giving 16–19-year-olds the chance to develop real, hands-on skills.

Designed as a pre-apprenticeship pathway, the Rail Skills Hub supports young people aged 16–19 who are looking for education, employment or training and have a genuine interest in rail. The programme helps you build confidence, gain industry-relevant experience, and prepare for future opportunities.

The rail industry offers exciting work, strong career progression and long-term opportunities. Through the Rail Skills Hub at BMet, you can begin your journey towards a rewarding career in railway engineering and beyond.

Courses available from Level 1 to Level 2

You will enrol in a Level 1 or 2 engineering qualification at the college, with Network Rail working closely to enrich and enhance the curriculum. You will get a chance to learn from people already working in the field what it’s like working in the rail industry, their experiences, career journeys, and industry knowledge, and offer invaluable insight to learners.

You will also benefit from structured mentoring sessions delivered by a Network Rail employee, alongside essential employability and soft skills, including interview techniques, communication strategies, and professional development.

During the courses, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage with leading suppliers who offer incredible career prospects
  • Explore diverse pathways within the rail industry, including roles beyond Network Rail
