Course overview
Section 1: Causes and spread of infection Learn how infection is caused and spread and develop an understanding of the chain of infection as well as healthcare associated infection (HCAIs). Section 2: The principles of infection prevention and control Discover the importance of good personal hygiene in controlling and preventing the spread of infections as well as the use of effective handwashing and PPE equipment. Section 3: Cleaning, decontamination and waste management Learn how to maintain a clean environment and the roles and responsibilities for cleaning, decontamination and proper waste management. Develop an understanding of sterilisation, the safe handling of laundry, the principles of effective waste management and the safe handling of sharp objects.

Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required. This course is funded and available to learners aged 19+ who have lived in the UK for at least 3 years.

After completing this course, you can progress to other NCFE qualifications or seek employment in the health and social care sector.
