Course overview
The course is designed to give you both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to succeed in the medical technology sector. In Year 1, you will complete the Level 4 HNC, covering core units such as Introduction to MedTech, Quality Management Systems (ISO 13485), Risk Management (ISO 14971), Applied Programming, Medical Devices, Regulatory Compliance, Software and UI/UX Design, and Designing a MedTech Project (Pearson Set).
These units give you a broad understanding of the medical technology industry, including the development, regulation, and application of medical devices, as well as software and project design skills. The course combines applied learning and real-world examples to ensure you develop practical skills that employers value.
Completion of the HNC allows progression to the Level 5 HND in MedTech, where you will study more advanced concepts and applied projects. The HND provides the knowledge required for professional recognition and further academic study, giving you the flexibility to either continue into university or enhance your existing career.
What this course covers
You will explore key areas of MedTech, including medical devices, regulatory compliance, and quality management systems. The course also develops technical skills in applied programming, software, and UI/UX design, and provides practical experience in designing and managing MedTech projects. These skills are essential for students aiming to work in biomedical science, healthcare technology, or related sectors.
Entry Requirements
Entry requirements are flexible and based on prior qualifications or relevant experience. The course is suitable for students who are motivated to develop technical and professional skills in MedTech. Small class sizes enable personalised support, with opportunities for one-to-one guidance and collaborative group work.
Progression Opportunities
Successful completion of the HNC allows progression to the HND, and the HND is recognised by higher education providers for entry to relevant undergraduate MedTech-related degrees. Graduates can pursue careers in biomedical science, healthcare technology, medical innovation, or continue to enhance their existing employment while linking with professional bodies in the sector.
Delivery And Assessment
The course combines theory with practical learning, including individual assignments, projects, and applied tasks based on real-world scenarios. Each unit is assessed through specific assignments designed to test both your knowledge and your ability to apply it in practical situations.
