Black History Month 2026

This October, we’re celebrating Black History Month 2026 at BMet and this year’s theme, Honouring Our Communities.

Community means something different to everyone. It can be the people we learn alongside, the colleagues we work with, the places we call home or the people who inspire and support us.

Throughout the month, we’ll be hearing from students, staff and partners from across BMet about what community means to them, while celebrating the stories, experiences and contributions of our Black communities.

Keep checking back throughout October as we add new stories, videos, events and activities to this page.

Date: 01 October 2026

Honouring our communities

This year’s Black History Month theme celebrates the dedication, resilience and contributions of Black people who help build, support and inspire communities every day.

At BMet, our diverse community includes students and staff from a wide range of Black African and Caribbean backgrounds. Black History Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate their voices, experiences and contributions, and to learn from one another.

You’ll hear from people across our colleges, as well as some of the organisations and partners we work with across Birmingham.

Black History Month is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the people and communities that make BMet and Birmingham places to be proud of.

CELEBRATING OUR COMMUNITY ALL YEAR ROUND

Our commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming BMet community doesn’t stop at the end of October.

As an active anti-racist institution, we’re committed to making sure the voices and experiences of our diverse communities are represented, celebrated and heard throughout the year.

Follow BMet on social media to join the conversation and see our latest Black History Month content.
