Course overview
You’ll study a wide range of topics that explore the theory and practice of sport. The course includes five mandatory units and one optional unit, delivered through classroom learning and practical sessions. You’ll gain a strong foundation in sport science and coaching, preparing you for further study or employment.
What this course covers
You’ll study Rules and Regulations in Sport, Practical Sport Performance, Careers in Sport and Active Leisure, Health, Wellbeing and Sport, Developing Coaching Skills, Sports Development, and Self-employment in Sport and Physical Activity.
Entry Requirements
You’ll need five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths. It’s preferable to have GCSE PE or a BTEC Level 2 in Sport, but applicants without these will still be considered. A positive school reference with good attendance and punctuality is also required.
Progression Opportunities
After completing the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development, you could go on to university or start a career in the sport and coaching industry, including Higher Apprenticeships.
Delivery And Assessment
Assessment is through coursework, workbooks, projects, research tasks, practical activities and presentations. All units are internally assessed.
