Course overview
You’ll gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to succeed in the fitness sector. The course includes a wide range of topics, with mandatory and optional units that cover everything from health and wellbeing to fitness testing. In year two, you’ll complete the Personal Trainer qualification and have the opportunity to study additional ‘bolt-on’ courses such as Exercise to Music, Kettlebells, Spin Cycling and Circuit Training.
What this course covers
You’ll study Careers in Sport & Active Leisure, Health & Wellbeing, Fitness Skills Development (including Gym Instructing qualification), Self-employment in Sport and Physical Activity, Nutrition for Physical Performance, and Fitness Testing.
Entry Requirements
You’ll need five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths. A genuine interest in the fitness industry will be assessed at interview, and a positive school reference with good attendance and punctuality is required.
Progression Opportunities
After completing the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, you’ll also be eligible for REPS student affiliation, allowing you to gain employment as a Gym Instructor or Personal Trainer. This qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by universities.
Delivery And Assessment
Assessment is through coursework, workbooks, projects, research tasks, practical activities and presentations. All units are internally assessed.
