Course overview

The Level 2 Diploma in Property Maintenance Operative is designed for adults looking to gain practical, job-ready skills for work in property maintenance and construction. This hands-on course focuses on developing core trade skills alongside essential health and safety knowledge, preparing you for employment or further training in the sector.

Delivered at our Erdington Skills Centre, the course is ideal for learners who want to build confidence, gain experience and develop skills that are in demand across housing, facilities management and construction.

What this course covers

You’ll gain a broad introduction to property maintenance through practical workshop-based learning. The course includes health and safety training at Levels 1 and 2, supporting progression towards the CSCS Green Card (taken externally), alongside Level 2 Principles of Construction.

You’ll develop practical skills in tiling, plaster repair, basic plumbing, electrical safety and decorative repairs. Learning is highly hands-on, and you’ll build and work within a realistic room environment, repairing faults placed within it and picking up essential skills along the way.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to adults aged 19 or over (as of 31 August 2025) who are currently unemployed and in receipt of benefits such as Universal Credit or Jobseeker’s Allowance. You’ll also need to have lived in the UK for the past three years.

All applicants are required to complete an initial Maths and English assessment, which is taken online at our James Watt College.

Progression Opportunities

Completing this qualification can support progression into employment within property maintenance, facilities management or construction-related roles. It can also act as a stepping stone into further construction training or trade-specific qualifications.

Learning is practical and workshop-based, supported by experienced tutors with strong industry backgrounds. You’ll receive guidance from a dedicated personal tutor and benefit from real-world insights throughout the course. Assessment is ongoing and based on your practical work and understanding of key principles.
