Film Studies A Level
A Level Film Studies invites you to explore the art and impact of cinema. You’ll examine how meaning is created through cinematography, sound, editing, and performance, and how film evokes emotional and reflective responses. This course is ideal for students who are passionate about film and want to understand its cultural and creative significance.
Course overview
You’ll analyse a wide range of films and filmmaking techniques, exploring how film functions as a powerful audio-visual form of expression. You’ll investigate the personal, social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of film, and develop your own critical responses to cinematic works.

Entry Requirements
You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Grade 4 in Maths and Grade 5 in English Language.
Progression Opportunities
Film Studies supports progression to a wide range of university courses, especially in the Arts and Humanities. Many students go on to study film and television production, media studies, journalism, philosophy, law, business, and marketing.
Delivery And Assessment
This two-year course, through the exam board: Eduqas, is principally assessed by written examination at the end of two years of study, but also includes Non-Exam Assessed (30% Coursework) Components, including practical film production.
