Our part-time HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is designed for those working in or aspiring to join the electronic, control engineering, and related industries. Equivalent to the first year of a university degree, this course helps you build advanced technical knowledge while applying your skills to real-world projects.

Course overview

You’ll study modules relevant to a wide range of engineering disciplines, including analogue and digital electronics, instrumentation and control, data communications, and core subjects like maths, electrical principles, and engineering science. You’ll also complete a personal engineering project with commercial relevance, applying your learning to benefit your employer.

What this course covers

Year 1: Electrical and Electronic Principles, Engineering Design, Engineering Maths, Mechanical Principles.

Year 2: Electronic Devices and Circuits, Engineering Science, Instrumentation and Control, Managing a Professional Engineering Project.

Entry Requirements

UCAS Tariff: 64 points (post-2017) or 160 points (pre-2017). Acceptable qualifications include: 2 A Levels at grade C (one must be Maths or Physics), BTEC Extended Diploma (MPP), BTEC Diploma (MM), BTEC 90-Credit Diploma (DM), or Access to HE (P45). You’ll also need 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths. Level 2 equivalents are accepted.

Progression Opportunities

On successful completion, you’ll be awarded an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and can progress to stage 2 of an honours degree or further professional qualifications.

Delivery And Assessment

You’ll study 7 hours per week in small groups, with learning delivered through lectures, practical investigations, computer simulations, case studies, and discussions.
