Biology A Level

Course overview
It covers the main human body systems and compares them to a range of other
organisms, frequently considering things from an evolutionary perspective. It
also explores applied topics such as biodiversity, disease, genetics and ecosystems.

Entry Requirements
You’ll need at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including grade 6 in English Language and Maths, and grade 6-6 in Dual Award Science or two separate science subjects including Biology.
Progression Opportunities
Biology is a highly respected academic subject that opens doors to a wide range of university courses and careers. Students often progress to degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Clinical/Medical Science, and Biotechnology. Apprenticeships and direct employment are also possible.
Delivery And Assessment
This two-year course, through the exam board: OCR, is assessed by written examination at the end of two
years of study, with a range of practical assessments (PAGs) also being
completed through the course in order to also gain the Practical Endorsement
which is essential for onward progression to Science based
degrees.
