AAT Diploma in Accounting Level 3 Part-Time

Course overview

The AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is designed for learners who already have a basic understanding of accounting and want to build their knowledge to an advanced level. You’ll develop the skills needed to prepare financial information, understand business finances, and apply accounting principles in a professional setting.

This course is delivered through our flexible Online and On Campus study model, combining award-winning online learning with regular face-to-face classes led by experienced tutors. You’ll benefit from the flexibility to study around work and other commitments while receiving expert support throughout your learning.

This Level 3 qualification is fully funded for eligible learners through the Adult Skills Fund. Alternatively, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help cover the cost of your studies.

What this course covers

You’ll develop a broad understanding of advanced accounting practices, including preparing financial statements, management accounting techniques, business tax processes and business awareness. Throughout the course you’ll strengthen your technical knowledge while developing the practical skills employers look for in finance professionals.

As part of the Online and On Campus delivery model, you’ll study engaging online lessons, videos and interactive case studies before attending regular classroom sessions where your tutor will reinforce your learning and provide guidance. You should expect to spend around 5–6 hours per week studying independently online.

Entry Requirements

AAT does not set formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, applicants should have a sound knowledge of bookkeeping principles. An AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting is advantageous but not essential.

Progression Opportunities

Successful completion of this qualification allows you to progress to the AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians.

The qualification also prepares you for a range of accounting and finance roles, including Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant and Bookkeeper. You’ll also be eligible to apply for AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB) status, giving you the opportunity to work as a freelance bookkeeper.

Delivery And Assessment

This course combines flexible online learning with regular on-campus classes, giving you the freedom to study at your own pace while benefiting from tutor support and collaborative classroom sessions.

Study method – Online and On Campus

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and On Campus model.

Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further.

Learners should expect to spend around 5-6 hours studying independently online each week.

On campus, you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor – without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

Classes on campus run each Tuesday – 9.30am – 3:45pm

Assessment is completed through a series of computer-based examinations, with one assessment for each unit of the qualification.
