Course overview

The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting is an ideal starting point if you’re new to accounting or looking to develop practical financial skills. You’ll gain an understanding of key accounting principles while learning how they are applied in real business environments.

This course is delivered through our flexible Online and On Campus study model, combining award-winning online learning with regular face-to-face classes delivered by experienced tutors. This approach allows you to fit your studies around work and other commitments while benefiting from expert support throughout your course.

This Level 2 qualification is part-funded, helping to reduce the cost of study. On successful completion, you may also be eligible to progress onto a fully funded Level 3 qualification, subject to eligibility.

What this course covers

You’ll develop the knowledge and practical skills needed for entry-level accounting roles, covering topics including bookkeeping, bookkeeping controls, costing principles and the business environment. Throughout the course you’ll build confidence using industry-recognised accounting principles while developing skills that employers value.

As part of the Online and On Campus delivery model, you’ll study interactive online lessons, videos and case studies in your own time before reinforcing your learning during regular classroom sessions with your tutor. You should expect to spend around 3–6 hours per week studying independently online.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Previous knowledge of accounting or a Level 1 Bookkeeping qualification may be beneficial but is not essential.

Progression Opportunities

After successfully completing this qualification, you can progress onto the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, followed by Level 4 qualifications. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for funding through the Adult Skills Fund or an Advanced Learner Loan for future study.

This qualification can also help you move into entry-level finance roles such as Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Credit Control Assistant or Purchase Ledger Clerk.

Delivery And Assessment

This course combines flexible online learning with regular on-campus classes, allowing you to study at a time and place that suits you while receiving ongoing support from experienced tutors.

Study method – Online and On Campus

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and On Campus model.

Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further.

Learners should expect to spend around 3-6 hours studying independently online each week.

On campus, you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor – without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

Classes on campus run each Tuesday – 9.30am -12.30pm

Assessment takes place through a series of computer-based exams alongside a synoptic assessment, which brings together the knowledge and skills developed throughout the qualification.
