Digital illustration and animation are essential skills in today’s creative industries. This exciting course helps you develop storytelling and promotional content for digital platforms, preparing you for careers in animation, concept art, and digital marketing.

Course overview

Over two years, you’ll build a broad range of creative skills through traditional and digital techniques. You’ll work on live industry briefs and projects, developing illustration, animation and concept art using tools like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Animate, Procreate and Krita. You’ll explore character design, storyboarding, stop motion, life drawing and art theory. You’ll also gain insight into emerging trends such as NFTs and digital currency. On completion, you’ll achieve a UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication.

What this course covers

Entry Requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English or maths. Alternatively, a Level 2 Diploma in a related subject at Merit or Distinction grade is accepted. You’ll also need to bring a portfolio of art and design work to your interview.

Progression Opportunities

Progress to a Foundation Diploma, higher education or employment. Career options include animation, illustration, concept art for film or games, storyboarding, graphic design, fine art and games design.

Delivery And Assessment

This course is 100% coursework. You’ll produce work in 2D, 3D and time-based media, including sketchbooks, design sheets, research projects, evidence folders and photographs documenting your creative process.
