The Fine Art A Level involves a combination of practical manipulation of art media and materials with the expression of ideas and concepts.It is ideal for those who are passionate about visual arts and requires a high level of commitment and independent effort.

Course overview

You’ll develop your skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media through a series of set projects. You’ll create a personal response to each theme, linking your work to the styles and techniques of other artists. Written annotations and evaluations will support your practical work and help you reflect on your creative journey.

What this course covers

Entry Requirements

You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Grade 4 in Maths and Grade 5 in English Language. You’ll also complete a two-week initial assessment period to confirm your suitability for the course.

Progression Opportunities

This course is a strong foundation for further study in creative subjects and can lead to careers in art, graphic design, fashion, animation, illustration, product design, advertising, and marketing.

Delivery And Assessment

This course, through the exam board: AQA, is principally assessed by coursework (a portfolio of Art work produced through completion of various projects through the two years of the course), with an externally set timed component in Year 2 (accounts for 40% of the assessment).
