BMet is celebrating its fourth year of involvement in Birmingham Tech Week and is delighted to be one of this year’s patrons. The week-long event, taking place from 19 to 23 October, brings together people and organisations from across the region’s technology sector.
This week will see BMet students connect with employers and technology leaders, while showcasing the college’s work as a Digital and Technologies Technical Excellence College (DigiTEC). Through DigiTEC, BMet is working with colleges and independent training providers across the West Midlands to expand opportunities in areas including artificial intelligence, cyber security, software development and creative media.
Throughout the week, BMet students are supporting events with interviews, vox pops, video editing and social media content. Students are also taking part in a variety if conference activities. T Level Software Development student Oliver has supported the Future Leaders Conference organising committee, while another student called Marcel will give a three-minute student address and higher education student Yassin will join an AI skills fireside chat.
On Tuesday 20 October, BMet is sponsoring Tech for All at the Eastside Rooms and will host an exhibition stand with DigiTEC delivery partners. The college will also moderate a fireside conversation with keynote speaker Isaac Harvey MBE, an award-winning disability advocate and content creator.
On Wednesday, BMet will host a DigiTEC gathering for representatives from the Department for Education, the Department for Business and Trade, and the Stakeholder Advisory Board. Students will also have opportunities to attend events focused on AI and emerging technologies.
Later in the week, BMet will take part in a roundtable on digital skills, AI and workforce transformation, host skills workshops and be represented on the judging panel at the Birmingham Tech Week Awards.
Suzie Branch-Haddow, Vice Principal for External Development at BMet, said: “We are delighted to be part of Birmingham Tech Week’s for the fourth year running and this year as a Patron. The week gives our students valuable opportunities to meet employers, explore emerging technologies and see how their skills can lead to careers across the region. It also reflects the purpose of DigiTEC, bringing education and industry together to help more people develop the skills needed for the West Midlands’ digital economy.”
BMet’s involvement in Birmingham Tech Week reflects its commitment to digital education, employer partnership and creating opportunities for students to connect with the region’s technology sector.
