Student lays foundations for a computing career
Jordan, 19, from Kidderminster, studying for a Computing & IT Diploma Level 3 at Kidderminster Academy, was successful in being offered a paid-for work placement with the company following an intensive interview process. He works two days a week whilst studying for his qualification.
He said: “I've always wanted to work with computers and I'm pretty hands-on, doing a bit of everything. I was keen to put the things I was learning at college into action and get some practical experience which is why I applied for the placement at Carpet Factory Outlets. I've done a thorough audit of their website, am designing flyers, looking at their databases and I’ve been tasked with creating a presence for them on social media to increase their online sales activities. It's a great opportunity for me to work in such a friendly environment and it’s been really interesting learning about the business.”
Dagen Thompson, Director of ICT at the college, said: “We were pleased to have been approached by such a reputable, local employer looking for young talent to boost their business. Providing work placements and experience is a priority for us and helps students to put their learning into practice. Jordan is a real success story and we hope to continue our partnership with Carpet Factory Outlets in the future.”
Angelo Gualano, Manager at Carpet Factory Outlets, said: “We have a thirty year history of providing quality carpets in the area but we have realised the importance of having an online presence to extend our reach into other areas. Consumer shopping habits have changed so quickly in such a short space of time that we felt we needed someone on board with the kind of IT skills that could support a growing online business to help with our expansion into other areas.
“Jordan really impressed us when he came to be interviewed – he knows his subject matter, was polite, has impeccable manners and is punctual, all the things an employer looks for in an employee. We need someone who can revamp our website and give us a presence on social media and Jordan is proving to be a real asset to the company. So much so, that we are considering offering him a full time job when he completes his course.”
Carpet Factory Outlets provides a range of top quality carpets from premium manufacturers, offering customers the chance to purchase carpets from Brintons, Brockway, Victoria, Woodward Grosvenor and Adam online. They have recently opened a new outlet store on Brierley Hill High Street.
