How Lois is a supernanny in the making

Lois Hollier-Swain first heard about the prestigious Norland College in Bath through a television documentary and soon made it her ambition to study there. After completing a childcare and education course at Stourbridge College, that dream has come true.

“There are only 100 places available at Norland College each year so I was thrilled when I got my place there,” said Lois. “I’ve never wanted to do anything else apart from work with children.”

With childcare qualifications not available at her school, Lois knew she would have to look elsewhere to help keep her ambitions on track.

“I came with my parents to an open day at Stourbridge College,” Lois explained. “What really impressed me about the course here was the idea of getting work experience in two childcare settings – a nursery and a school. I loved the roles so much that I’ve ended up gaining 800 hours of work experience, something which looks really good on my CV.”

She continued: “People think working with children is really easy, but when you’re acting as their carer, mentor and playmate all at once, it’s a big responsibility. That said, it’s also the most rewarding job I could ever imagine doing.”
