How Alice is making scary movie magic

With make-up bags of experience working on film sets and media make-up qualifications under her belt, Alice Green is closer than ever to a successful career as a professional artist.

The 26-year-old has completed Level 2 and Level 3 courses at Kidderminster Academy. Her next stop in November will be in Devon to study prosthetics and special effects under the expert eye of the renowned artist, Neill Gorton.

“I’m a big horror movie fan, so learning more about the specialist techniques for this genre is going to be a big help to my career,” said Alice from Crookley.

“I’ve always been into films. I’m fascinated at how characters are given a certain look that stays in people’s imaginations.”

Alice’s ambitions have been boosted by her time on film sets. She spent a day as the head of the makeup department on a short BBC film where one of the characters was a ghost. She has also worked on a feature film coming out later this year.

Balancing this work experience with her studies, plus looking after her five-year-old and 18-month-old children proves how determined she is to make the most of whatever opportunities come her way.
After completing her prosthetics course, Alice hopes to continue working on other film projects, building up a name for herself.

“I am definitely more confident, creative and more skilled after studying at The Academy. The film projects I’ve done show that.”

She added: “I want to be the kind of artist that is challenged to come up with something different, slowly building up a character’s face and body features in a way that jumps out of the screen.

“Some of my favourite characters are from The Rocky Horror Show and IT. I’d love it if I came up with something just as impressive – and memorable.”
