National Apprenticeship Week 2025
At BMet we offer over 30 different sector-based apprenticeships from Level 2 to University Level.
An apprenticeship is a great opportunity to start making your way into a new career or upskill within your current full-time job. Apprenticeships are specifically designed to support you in the workplace and are created alongside industry professionals to ensure you are learning the skills, knowledge and experience needed within industry. During an apprenticeship you’ll earn a real wage, learn job specific skills and gain an industry recognised qualification in your chosen subject area.

Working with BMet, supports the growth of our workforce at Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust, through the use of apprenticeship programmes. Learners are supported by the college’s faculty leads and tutors alike. Communications are effective and key to the success of the completion of learning. Quality apprenticeship delivery continues to provide an effective pipeline for careers into the NHS.

We have had a very successful collaborative relationship with BMet since 2021. This initiative has provided both support and funding for our apprentices, helping us to train the next generation of service engineers.
Our apprentices’ benefit from comprehensive support from a Baxi Mentor who guides them in the workplace, combined with block release at James Watt College using their state-of-the-art gas engineering workshop and learning from their highly skilled tutors.

I decided to do my apprenticeship, as I was keen to learn new skills and broaden my knowledge. I have really enjoyed the opportunities the apprenticeship has provided, such as networking with both internal staff and external advisors. I am continuing to develop the skills I have gained, such as adaptability, communication and increasing confidence.
The careers team have been very supportive throughout the duration of my course and have always helped me to deliver extremely high quality CIAG to our learners.
My apprenticeship is due to end in September. I’m looking forward to becoming a fully qualified careers advisor and gaining my degree, so I can continue to support students regularly and support the team at open events and enrolment.

I chose this apprenticeship because I like how it is a mix of hands-on work and problem-solving activities. I mostly enjoy going into customers houses and seeing the smile on their faces after telling them their heating and hot water is working again!
Some of the most important skills I have learnt during my apprenticeship are communication which is needed to understand what issues the customer is having, perseverance and adaptability – because every single job is different and each customer has their own needs.
My future plans are to become a Service Engineer at Baxi and create specific working methods for each boiler – meaning I can work efficiently but more importantly, safely. After I have passed all the milestones of a Service Engineer, I look forward to becoming a repair engineer.
