This course will introduce you to the world of photography alongside studying
fine art.
It is an ideal course if you are interested in a career in the photography
and/or fine art. It is an ideal course if you are interested in a career
in photography within the fashion industry. The course focuses on providing
learners with the skill set needed for employment in the Creative Industry or
advanced study at Higher Education level, and encompasses a wide range of
photographic specialisms as well as moving image and design components.
Our facilities include a well-equipped photography studio, an up-to-date
digital suite with Apple Mac computers and a large black & white
photographic darkroom. Students gain an understanding of both traditional
and contemporary practice and benefit from extensive experience of analogue and
digital photographic processes within fashion. The qualification is full
time and entirely coursework based. It focuses on professional practice and
emphasises work experience through live projects, working alongside commercial
clients as well as interdisciplinary, collaborative ventures with other students
from the Creative Arts Department. Our city centre location gives us easy access to fantastic cultural and
educational resources including regional galleries, museums and other arts
organisations. This is used to develop primary research skills and an
understanding of historical and contemporary Art & Design practice as
context for students’ photographic studies. Entry onto the course is by
interview. Applicants need to bring a portfolio of work or recent photography or
art and design work that they can talk about in the interview. Supporting
sketchbooks are also good. You will be asked to explain how you will benefit
from doing the course and your future ambitions. Award by UAL Awarding Body you will achienve a UAL Level 3 Diploma and
Extended Diploma in Creative Practive: Art, Design and Communication on
completion of this course.

Course Length: 35 Weeks
You will need a minimum of four GCSE grade 4 or above for English/ maths can be retaken on the course. Or a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design at Merit or above. You are also required to bring an attendance report and/or a reference from your previous tutor/school.
The delivery of the course is designed to develop your visual communication skills, your application of practical techniques and processes, as well as your understanding of historical and contextual art practices. The course is assessed through projects and sketchbook work. There are deadlines for assignments throughout the course, which you will need to meet to continue and gain the qualification.
Successful completion of the Diploma leads students onto the full two-year Extended Diploma course in Fashion Photography. This provides a pathway for students looking to study at HE level, and/or pursue a career in photography. You will be advised and supported in your UCAS applications with help on appropriate routes and portfolio preparation.
