Sport Extended Certificate Level 2

This course is suitable for students who want to study a wide range of sports rather than specialising in one area.

This course is designed to equip you with the necessary skills for a career within the Sports industry and will give you a range of skills and knowledge required for employment. You will participate in both theory and practical sessions. You will learn about different aspects of the Sports industry, from how the body works to fitness training and the organisation and development of sport.   There is a balance of classroom based theory and practical activity. Theory lesson include activites involving investigating the bodies systems, researching nutrition and delivering coaching sessions. Practical lessons involve participating in team and individual sports as well as exercising in the colleges gym.

Previous trips to support learning for this course have included Manchester United Football Club, City of Manchester Stadium, Wembley Stadium and also Woodlands Outdoor Adventurous Activities Camp. This course develops skills and knowledge by studying a wide range of topics. These will enable you to understand key elements and components within the Sport Industry in preparation for further study at level 3.

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including English and Maths

We will also consider Level 1 sport qualifications with Merit grade or above.

You will be assessed through assignments that will involve presentations, posters, reports and training plans. Two units are assessed externally by the exam board through an online test, you will prepare for the test through the use of mock tests and revision classes.

Completion of this course will enable you to progress to a Level 3 Diploma in Sports, Development, Coaching & Fitness. You may look for employment in the sports industry looking at Leisure assistant posts or coaching. Others may look to use the course to apply for other sport related qualifications maybe in Fitness or Coaching.
