Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship

An Information Communications Technician (ICT) provides support to internal and/or external customers, by using tools or systems to problem solve and trouble-shoot routine and non-routine problems. This occupation supports clients/customers with their systems. They achieve this through monitoring and maintaining the systems and/or platforms to maximise productivity and user experience.

An ICT could be installing and configuring computer systems, diagnosing hardware and/or software faults, solving technical and applications problems, either remotely or in person. Some examples of these issues are slow performance, connection problems, and an inability to access data.

Entry Requirements

Individual employers set the selection criteria however, for entry onto this apprenticeship, applicants must have 4 GCSE’s at grade C/4 and above including English and maths and either Science or Computing GCSE at grade C/4 or above. Of equal importance are skills like motivation and work ethic, good interpersonal skills, good communication skills and a willingness to learn. Employers will set specifications depending on the role.

Delivery and Assessment

The duration of the apprenticeship is 18 months depending on the needs of the employer and the learner. Assessments include vendor and professional qualifications delivered through set study days and distance learning on a VLE platform. As part of the apprenticeship, there will be a number of specific skills that your employer or college tutor will monitor and observe to prove that you have reached a certain level of understanding. Delivery will be through a blended model of classroom delivery, distance learning and training and support in the workplace.

Progression

After completing the Level 3 you could consider progressing onto Level 4 Apprenticeship Standards in Network Engineer and Cyber Security Technologist.
