Girls Football Academy (AVFC/BMet)

The AVFC/ BMET Girls Football Academy brings together a link between these two dominant and successful youth development programmes. A key element of this programme, compared to many others, is that it is student centred; therefore students can select their own education programme from a range of courses at Sutton Coldfield College. Once a course has been chosen, players are then able to train and play for the football academy, competing weekly in Tier 1 of the West Midland Colleges football league.

All learners on the AVFC/BMET Girls Football Academy will enrol on a Programme of Study at Sutton Coldfield College. The course will be aligned to qualifications on entry. Alongside the selected academic course, learners will have 7 hours of football specific training and match play combined with Tutorial, Purposeful Work Experience (some of which can be completed with Aston Villa Ladies FC) and Maths* or English* if required.

Delivery of the academic courses is at Sutton Coldfield College where you will study in a purpose built facility related to your course of study. Academic courses are delivered during the day between 9am and 5pm. Training and playing for the BMET/ Girls Football programme will be at Boldmere St.Michaels FC utilising the ‘state of the art’ 3G artificial pitch. Coaching is provided by UEFA B Licence AVFC Ladies captain Jade Richards, and Head of Women’s football and college lecturer Katryna Cresswell-Lane who is also UEFA B Licence holder.

Players can progress within their studies to the next level course, whether that be another course at the college at the next level, or progress onto a UK University, or through gaining a scholarship abroad. There is also potential to gain work placement and opportunities through the links with Aston Villa Football Club along with a range of other coaching companies the college supports.
