Fast-Track Pre-Medical A Level

On this course you will study A Level Biology, Chemistry and Psychology over three evenings per week.

Applicants should be aware that this reduced classroom time and course duration will require a significant commitment of time outside of the classroom, and we would expect that students on this course will commit at least 6 hours per subject per week to directed independent study outside of the classroom. Appropriate resources and access to relevant online academic support sites will be provided at no additional cost. A Chromebook for study purposes will also be provided free of charge where requested, on receipt of course fees.

There will also be a requirement for attendance of intensive practical days outside of term-time during the course, for the completion of necessary Practical Endorsements in Biology and Chemistry. It is anticipated that these will take place at February half-term and Easter, but these dates are negotiable with the enrolled cohort of students.

We will also provide enrolled students with support to access the necessary work placement/experiences, UCAS application support and interview guidance and practice in preparation for application to Medical degrees. (Please note that candidates will need to make independent arrangements to sit UCAT/BMAT admissions tests – depending on their chosen universities – but will be supported with appropriate guidance to arrange this.)

The course, by its nature and intended destination route, will require an exceptionally high level of commitment and independent study capability from students, and is therefore likely to be of interest to professionals/graduates in other sectors looking to achieve a career change into Medicine and related areas.

Fees for the course are £7500 for the duration of the two-year course, which will include all related expenses, excluding UCAT/BMAT University Admissions Tests.

Entry Requirements

Suitable applicants will require a Level 2/GCSE or equivalent profile suitable for eventual entry into Medical and related degrees. This would typically be an overall GCSE profile of Grades A*-B/7-9, particularly in Maths and the Sciences. Qualifications above GCSE level would be useful but are not essential as ‘real-life’ and working experience will also be considered in the application and interview process. All enrolments to this course will be subject to interview, with course offers considered on an individual basis.

Delivery and Assessment

Delivery will take place over three evenings per week attending one 3-hour lesson per A Level subject per week (days TBC over Monday to Thursday), plus directed independent study and intensive Practical days, as detailed above. All delivery will take place on a small group basis, with a maximum group size of 8. We will also provide weekly online tutorial/workshop support in developing the appropriate Maths skills for science subjects (where required and by arrangement). All assessment is by end of course examination.

The aim of this course is exclusively to support enrolled students to achieve suitable grades in three appropriate A Level subjects to allow access to Medicine and related degrees.
