English - Creative Writing A Level

Are you the sort of person who loves to express yourself through writing, for example in the form of blogs, diaries, fiction, or poetry? This course explores different kinds of texts through reading widely and experimenting with forms, genres and techniques. You will get the most out of this course if you: enjoy talking about writers’ ideas and techniques, can write accurately, are willing to work in a collaborative environment, and have ideas and/or imagination to bring to writing tasks.

Entry Requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths. You will also need to have achieved grade B in English. Please bring a portfolio of your personal writing

This course is assessed through a combination of exams and coursework.

Progression

An A-level in an English subject is respected by many employers and universities because writing skills are strengthened by close study of other writers and by drafting and re-drafting your own work. Likewise the in-depth analysis and creativity required for your study of English are skills you can use in a wide range of HE courses and careers. English A-levels are often used by students to pursue degrees in Law, Languages, Education and Media Studies. AS/A2 Creative Writing will be particularly useful for anybody considering a career in journalism or marketing.
