What is the build environment?  The Built Environment is all around us and is the human-made surroundings that provide the setting for human activity, this can range from a residential dwelling, industrial factory units, commercial space, buildings or premises, infrastructure like roads and railways, a piece of public art, park land to complete conurbations neighbourhoods and cities.  The construction industry accounts for 10% of all jobs in the UK at all levels, SOBE offers learners the opportunity to undertake training, qualifications and pathways focused on the professional and technical skills required within the industry at a range of levels offering progression routes into employment or higher education.

Content of the qualifications and pathways include:  Domestic dwellings, industrial and commercial construction techniques, Modern and Traditional Construction including Green technologies and Environmental awareness with the associated considerations, The School of Built Environment (SOBE)  also develops aligned skills required to manage and supervise construction projects these include

  • Organising and Controlling Construction Works
  • Project Management
  • Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Planning Construction Works
  • Sustainable Construction techniques
  • Graphical detailing
  • Building regulation and control
  • Dimensional and cost Control methodology.

You will learn skills within;

  • Surveying
  • BIM (building information management) through a range of dynamic software packages
  • CAD (Computer Aided Design)
  • Analytical Mathematics within Construction
  • Green Tech and Sustainability within Construction
  • Health, Safety and welfare
  • Science and Materials in Construction

Minimum 4 GCSE’s at grade 5 or above (must include Maths and English).

You will also work towards the development of industry recognised and required Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours specific to the industry and the progression paths available.  Industry work experience/placements will also form part of your learning.

This courses will enable you to progress your career and pathway opportunities within the construction and the built environment sector.
