Applied Extended Certificate in Law & Criminology Level 3

This programme is for learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the legal sector.
In addition to specific legal content, the requirements of the qualification will enable learners to develop the transferable and higher-order skills that are highly regarded by higher education providers and employers.

The programme is equivalent in size to three A Levels and is an excellent route for learners to pursue a career in the legal sector. This can be through higher education (degrees in business and law) or through an Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSES Grade 4/C, this includes maths and English Language. Learners progressing from Level 2 to Level 3 need a Merit.

Delivery and Assessment

Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications. There are three main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: external, internal and synoptic. You will study four units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external assessed.


The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses, for example: HND in Law/Legal Studies , LLB, BA in Criminology, Legal Studies Degree, BSc (Hons) in Business and Management , BA (Hons) and BSc(Hons) in Business Studies & Law, BA (Hons) and BSc(Hons) in Business Studies, BSc (Hons) in International Management.
