Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Level 2

An Accounts or Finance Assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business.

The Accounts or Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business. An Accounts or Finance Assistant’s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry. Accounts or Finance Assistants can work in almost any sector.

This flexible apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.

Study Method – Online and On Campus

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and On Campus model.

Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons last for around 45 minutes and are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further and learners should expect to spend around 4-5 hours studying independently online each week.

On campus, you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor – without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

Entry Requirements

Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Level 3

An Assistant Accountant Apprentice provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation.

The Assistant Accountant role will involve assisting in the day-to-day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

This flexible apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.

Bricklayer Apprenticeship Level 2

Bricklaying is a core function within construction, particularly the house building sector. Bricklayers lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures e.g. chimney stacks. They might also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects.

The range of sites and projects that bricklayers will work on include large commercial developments, new builds in housing, alterations, extensions and restorations. A bricklayer may work one-on-one or on larger jobs where their bricklaying group (gang) may work on a particular section of a building alongside other bricklaying gangs as well as other trades.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a GCSE Grade D/3 or above in Maths and English or Functional Skills level 1 in Maths and English upon entry to this programme.

Business Administrator Apprenticeship Level 3

Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike, from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector.

The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. Business administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management responsibilities. Responsibilities of the role are to support and engage with different parts of the organisation and interact with internal or external customers. The role involves demonstrating strong communication skills initiative managing priorities problem solving decision making and the potential for people management.

Carpentry Apprenticeship Level 2

Nail a career in carpentry! As an apprentice carpenter, you can expect to be hands-on with every stage of the building process. Whether working as part of a team or under supervision you will use machinery and tools to create structures for components from the designs plans and specifications of architects and designers to meet the clients’ expectations.

A Site Carpenter will normally work on a building site, or in domestic and commercial premises, preparing and fixing building components, from the initial erection of a new building, through to the installation of all necessary fixtures and fittings, as well as a range of repair and maintenance activities.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a GCSE Grade D/3 or above in Maths and English or Functional Skills level 1 in Maths and English upon entry to this programme.

Content Creator Apprenticeship Level 3

Land your first break in the industry – apply to be a Content Creator! You will be taught a range of practical skills used within the graphic design or media sector including Photoshop, Premier Pro, Audition, InDesign and Illustrator.

As a content creator you will collaborate with designers and developers, using authoring languages to create content for the World Wide Web, which may include video, images, text (or “copy”) and web pages and social media content, so an enthusiasm for technology and creating great online experiences is a must.

The beauty of this apprenticeship is that you will have the space to develop in the classroom alongside undertaking real-world briefs set by your employer.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s at Grade C/4 or above including Maths and English upon entry to this programme.

It would be desirable for a candidate to have some prior experience of one or more applications from the Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Photoshop, Premier Pro, InDesign or Illustrator is preferred, as is previous experience of digital creative work.

Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Level 2

The role of a customer service practitioner is to deliver high quality products and services to the customers of their organisation. Your core responsibility will be to provide a high-quality service to customers which will be delivered from the workplace, digitally, or through going out into the customer’s own locality.

Responsibilities could include one-off or routine contacts and include dealing with orders, payments, offering advice, guidance and support, meet-and-greet, sales, fixing problems, after care, service recovery or gaining insight through measuring customer satisfaction. You may be the first point of contact and work in any sector or organisation type.

Your actions will influence the customer experience and their satisfaction with your organisation. You will demonstrate excellent customer service skills and behaviours as well as product and/or service knowledge when delivering to your customers. You provide service in line with the organisation’s customer service standards and strategy and within appropriate regulatory requirements. Your customer interactions may cover a wide range of situations and can include face-to-face, telephone, post, email, text and social media.

Dental Nurse (Integrated) Apprenticeship Level 3

The Dental Nurse (Integrated) role complements the role of other dental professionals. One of the primary roles is to provide chair side support to dental professionals and deliver a high level of patient care.

Dental Nurses may work in a variety of clinical environments including NHS General dental practice, hospital, private dental practice, specialist dental practice, community dental service or military dental clinic. They will work predominantly with a dentist, dental hygienist, dental therapist, clinical dental technician or orthodontic therapist.

Engineering Apprenticeship Level 2 & Level 3

Engineer your career! An apprenticeship within this sector could see you working in any number of businesses with the ability to specialise in a number of routes like electronic or manufacturing.  A number of our apprentices have gone on to win national awards – it could be you!

If you have initiative, the ability to grasp technical information and great problem-solving skills an apprenticeship within this sector could be for you. With the UK facing a demand for skilled engineers you will be a highly sought after professional with unlimited career opportunities. Apprentices who qualify as electronic engineers will learn all about manufacturing electronic control systems and testing and maintaining electrical equipment. They will develop the practical skills and technical knowledge required to work as a professional and competent electrical and electronic engineer. Apprentices who choose the manufacturing route will gain practical experience by working with machine tools, centre lathes and milling machines and develop hand fitting skills by producing a number of practical components.

Level 2 – Engineering Operative

Level 3 – Engineering Technician

Entry Requirements

  • Level 2 Engineering Operative: 4 GCSE’s – must include English and maths at grade 4 or above
  • Level 3 Engineering Technician: 4 GCSE’s – must include English at grade 4 or above and preferably a higher-level grade 5/6 in maths.

Horticulture or Landscape Construction Operative Apprenticeship Level 2

On a horticulture and landscape construction operative apprenticeship you’ll help plan and maintain large gardens, parks and other green spaces. Horticulture and landscape construction operators work in public parks and gardens, green spaces and historic gardens, private gardens and estates, nurseries, and retail stores.

This course is delivered at Sutton Coldfield College. Horticulture Operatives can be employed to work in public parks and gardens, green spaces and historic gardens, private gardens and estates or in production nurseries and retail outlets, focusing on plant propagation and plant growth and identification. Many businesses will be specialised in their activities. Soft- landscaping includes the establishment and maintenance of plants and cultivated areas.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a 3 GCSE’s Grade D/3 or above in Maths and English upon entry to this programme.

For those looking to progress in the sector Grade C/4 or above is required upon entry.

HR Support Apprenticeship Level 3

The function of a HR professional is to support HR managers and employees. Handling day to day queries and providing HR advice.

HR Professionals in this role are typically either working in a medium to large organisation as part of the HR function delivering front line support to managers and employees, or are a HR Manager in a small organisation. Their work is likely to include handling day to day queries and providing HR advice, working on a range of HR processes, ranging from transactional to relatively complex, from recruitment through to retirement. Using HR systems to keep records, providing relevant HR information to the business and working with the business on HR changes.

Paralegal Apprenticeship Level 3

This Apprenticeship is a partnership between the employer, employee and college. It is designed to give students an insight into the legal profession. It provides an excellent training mechanism to provide routes into higher education and is a structured programme of learning which combines work-based learning with academic learning.

A great opportunity to access the law world by completing a Paralegal apprenticeship. A Paralegal would provide legal support whilst working under supervision, typical activities that would be carried out but are not exclusive to this role include; managing data/records, reviewing documents, drafting and producing legal documents and standard forms, assisting with the inception, progress and completion of client files, carrying out research, handling confidential and sensitive information, understanding and utilising basic financial information and communicating (written and oral) with external clients.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have 5 GCSE’s Grade C/4 or above including Maths and English, 2 A-Levels and/or relevant experience.

Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship Level 2

The Pharmacy Assistant (PA) works under the supervision of a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, or other accountable healthcare professional. The PA provides a variety of pharmacy and medicines services to patients, the public and other professional healthcare teams. The PA supports the delivery of pharmacy services in a variety of pharmacy environments.

A PA will be involved in supporting the supply, preparation and assembly of medicines and products; issuing them to patients and other healthcare professionals and assisting in providing advice to patients to help them to make effective use of their medicines. They will be responsible for ordering and receiving medicines, as well as their storage, disposal and return. They will have an understanding of healthy lifestyle choices and relevant screening services. They will understand and work to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), a set of step-by-step instructions compiled by their organisation to help staff carry out routine operations. SOPs aim to achieve efficiency, quality output and uniformity of performance, while reducing miscommunication and failure to comply with pharmacy regulations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have 4 GCSE’s Grade C/4 or above including Maths and English. Applicants looking to progress onto the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Standard will require as a minimum (upon entry at Level 2) 4 GCSE’s at grade C/4 and above including Maths, English and Science.

Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Apprenticeship Level 3

Pharmacy Technicians are registered professionals working within the regulatory standards for pharmacy, as set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Pharmacy Order 2010.

Pharmacy Technicians work in a wide range of settings, including (but not exclusively): registered pharmacies, community services, justice (the Prison Service), GP Practices, dispensing doctors’ practices, care homes and clinical commissioning groups, hospitals, mental health, defence (HM Armed Services) and within the pharmaceutical industry.

Pharmacy technicians manage the supply of medicines and devices in a pharmacy and assist pharmacists with advisory services.

A Pharmacy Technician is responsible for carrying out both routine and specialist services, including highly complex activities requiring them to use their professional judgement. They are expected to work both individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. They are able to work with minimum supervision, with a high degree of autonomy, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that they have undertaken and that of others.

Pharmacy Technicians are expected to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients and the public, whilst respecting and maintaining confidentiality and privacy.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have 4 GCSE’s Grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and Science. Please note: Applicants must successfully complete the Level 2 Pharmacy Assistant Standard before progressing onto this Level 3 Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Standard.

Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship Level 4

Individuals in the role of a Professional Accounting Technician will have responsibility for creating, and/or verifying and reviewing accurate and timely financial information within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation.

Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Level 3

This occupation is found in primary, secondary, special schools, alternative provision, and further education institutions such as sixth forms and colleges. Teaching Assistants work across all age ranges, supporting all learners.

The broad purpose of this occupation is to support the class teacher to enhance learners’ progress and development either in groups or individually. Teaching Assistants ensure that learners understand their work, know their learning objectives, and display positive learning behaviours in order to make progress. They deliver individual and small group teaching and apply a range of strategies to support learners of different abilities under the professional direction and supervision of a qualified teacher. Teaching Assistants may support learners with special educational needs and disabilities and learners with social, emotional, and mental health vulnerabilities.

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation may interact with all learners. This includes but is not limited to high attaining, SEND, EAL, and disadvantaged learners. Teaching Assistants will also work in partnership with teachers and other professionals within the school and education system, as well as with learners’ parents or carers.
An employee in this occupation will be responsible for delivering individual and small group teaching and adapting planning under the direction of a teacher; implementing safeguarding policies and safe practice; working effectively with other education professionals; promoting positive learning behaviours; and supporting the development of a safe and stimulating learning environment. They will work within a framework of national legislation regarding safeguarding, and within the policies and procedures of their individual education organisations.
